Content Audit Template

Conducting a content audit can be a daunting task, but I promise you, it's well worth it. It's a great way to understand what content you have and what your content library is lacking. By layering on performance metrics, accessibility, and SEO, you can get a clear picture of where to put your efforts over the next quarter.

How To Use This Template

  • Start by pulling as much information as you can from your CMS including titles, dates, authors, URLs, SEO titles and descriptions, as much as is available to you.
  • If you need to use multiple spreadsheets to gather this information, do so, and use VLOOKUP to help marry all the information together. More on that here.
  • Then pull performance information from Google Analytics and match with your URLs.
  • If you don't have topic, funnel stage, or buyer persona tags in use some of this process will be manual. But take the time now to label each article in your spreadsheet and then add the requisite back-end tags to make this process easier next time.

NOTE: Be sure to make a copy of this template so you can edit, tweak, and fill in the blanks.

Getting organized will help you take stock of what you have and what you need and double down on your accessibility requirements and SEO and performance goals. It's a big job, but we hope this template helps make it just a wee bit easier.
